ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN SANCTIFICATION:

1. The Holy Spirit is the Agent of Sanctification
  - 2 Thessalonians 2:13 identifies sanctification as "the sanctifying work of the Spirit"

2. Sanctification is a Continuous Process
  - The Holy Spirit works to make believers more like Christ over time (2 Corinthians 3:18)

3. The Spirit Uses Scripture in Sanctification
  - John 17:17 - "Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth"

4. The Spirit Empowers Believers for Holy Living
  - Romans 8:13 - "by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body"

5. Sanctification Requires Our Cooperation
  - We must "work out our salvation" while God works in us (Philippians 2:12-13)

6. The Spirit Convicts of Sin
  - He brings awareness of areas that need transformation

7. The Spirit Produces Fruit in Believers' Lives
  - Galatians 5:22-23 lists the fruit of the Spirit

8. Sanctification is Linked to Union with Christ
  - The Spirit makes our union with Christ in His death and resurrection real in our lives

9. The Spirit Transforms Our Character
  - He works to make us more like Christ in our thoughts, attitudes, and actions

10. Sanctification is a Lifelong Process
   - The Spirit's work of transformation continues throughout our lives until glorification

Conclusion: While sanctification involves our effort, it is fundamentally the work of the Holy Spirit transforming us into Christ's image. We must cooperate with and yield to the Spirit's sanctifying work in our lives.
